If you own a high-value home, valuable jewelry or art, multiple vehicles, or simply have more to protect than a standard policy anticipates, you may have outgrown ordinary homeowners and auto insurance without realizing it. That’s where private client insurance comes in.
What Private Client Insurance Actually Means
“Private client” (sometimes called “high-net-worth” insurance) isn’t a single product — it’s a tier of service and coverage designed for households with significant assets. Instead of a one-size-fits-all policy, private client insurance is built around your specific home, collections, liability exposure, and lifestyle, typically through carriers that specialize exclusively in this space, such as Chubb, PURE, and Cincinnati Private Client.
How It’s Different from a Standard Policy
- Higher, more accurate replacement-cost coverage for homes that would be expensive or impossible to rebuild at standard rates.
- Home policies written on an HE-7 form which provides broader coverage than a traditional HO3 homomers insurance policy. This broader coverage includes higher water backup coverages, extended replacement coverage on the dwelling, and mortgage expense coverage to pay the mortgage if you had to rebuild your home.
- Broader, often worldwide coverage for jewelry, art, wine collections, and other valuables — frequently with no scheduling deductible.
- Higher liability limits and better excess/umbrella integration, which matters more the more assets you have to protect. Many standard carriers will cap their umbrella exposure with limits like $2mm (Progressive) and $5mm (Travelers). Our premium carriers will often go higher – $10mm or $20mm as needed.
- White-glove claims handling — many private client carriers assign a dedicated claims advocate and can fast-track temporary housing or repairs after a loss.
- Risk management services, such as water-leak detection systems, wildfire mitigation consulting, or cybersecurity assessments for high-profile families.
Signs You May Need It
- Your home would cost more than $2mm to rebuild today.
- You have jewelry, art, or collectibles worth more than a few thousand dollars combined.
- You employ household staff (nanny, housekeeper, driver) and haven’t reviewed your liability exposure.
- You serve on a nonprofit board, own a business, or otherwise have elevated personal liability exposure.
- You’ve been told by a standard carrier that your home is becoming difficult or expensive to insure.
